Burcas Limited - Supplier Development Program

The company

Burcas are a Precision Engineering Company, manufacturing and sub-contract machining parts for the Aerospace industry. The Company has the Aerospace Quality Approval AS EN 9100, and in January 2006 teamed up with TEC-Concepts on a Supply Chain Programme. TEC-Concepts specialise in supply chain development for the aerospace, automotive and defence industries. Their unique approach fuses the best practices of Six Sigma, Kaizen Blitz and Lean Enterprise with sector specific standards related to quality, the environment and health & safety. The result is high performing and integrated management systems deployed throughout the supply chain.

Issues

The monitoring of the Supply Chain needs to be very accurate, and the monthly performance of each supplier can be very time consuming, CANDA working closely with TEC-Concepts developed a “Supplier Portal” that was easy to import the data too and quick to deliver the results.

Objective

Each of the suppliers on the Programme login to burcasonline.com and can quickly find out how they are performing and how this rates against the other suppliers being monitored. Burcas are able to uplift to the portal supplier non-conformances, this sends out an email notification to the supplier informing them of a problem, the supplier then has a set period of time to reply, and they are measured on their responsiveness.

Solution

All the suppliers are measured for Q (quality) C (cost) D (delivery) & responsiveness, these results are shown in colours on the suppliers login page, to quickly show the supplier and the Burcas quality department which area needs addressing.

Results

CANDA Systems developed and supplied a web portal that has enabled TEC-Concepts to spend more time with the suppliers developing their skills and to provide Burcas with products and services that meet the ever increasing needs of the fast moving aerospace sector.
